Kurdistan Debate Championship: A Platform for Thought, Dialogue, and Future Leadership

The Kurdistan Foundation successfully hosted the Kurdistan Debate Championship in Erbil, bringing together students from across the Kurdistan Region in a powerful celebration of critical thinking, dialogue, and youth leadership.

Students representing 30 schools from different cities participated in the championship, engaging in structured debates that addressed pressing social, civic, and policy-related topics. Through rigorous preliminary rounds, four outstanding school teams advanced to the final stage, where they competed at the highest level of the championship.

More than competition, the Kurdistan Debate Championship serves as a platform designed to amplify young voices and foster informed dialogue. By encouraging students to research, analyze, and articulate diverse perspectives, the initiative strengthens essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and evidence-based reasoning, skills that are fundamental to responsible citizenship and future leadership.

The Kurdistan Foundation emphasized that the championship reflects its deep commitment to critical thinking and constructive debate as tools for social progress. Through initiatives like Kurdistan Debate, the Foundation aims to empower youth to engage thoughtfully with complex issues and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The initiative is guided by Kurdistan Foundation’s three core pillars: Belong, Build, and Become, fostering a sense of inclusion, developing skills and confidence, and enabling young people to grow into informed, engaged leaders.

As the championship concluded, the message was clear: this was more than a debate. It was a celebration of intellect, a platform for change, and a meaningful investment in the next generation of Kurdistan’s leaders.
